Manager, Membership Services

Professional association located in Bethesda, MD is seeking a Manager of Membership Services. The National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) represents 25,000 members, has a staff of 30, and an annual budget of $8 million. NASP is located in downtown Bethesda, MD, three blocks from the Metro (Red Line). NASP represents school psychology and supports school psychologists to enhance the learning and mental health of all children and youth.

Job Purpose:

The Manager of Membership Services is responsible for providing support to the NASP membership program. This position is responsible for managing and enhancing membership recruitment, engagement, and retention efforts to meet organizational objectives. The manager will develop, coordinate and implement key projects, including; membership marketing; delegate outreach; online communities; social media, and graduate student, early career and graduate educator communications and resources. The position reports to and works under the general supervision of the Director of Membership and Marketing.

Key Responsibilities:

Membership Marketing: Develop marketing strategy and supporting collateral materials, e-mail messages, social media, and web content.

State Delegate Support: Draft newsletter copy, prepare marketing materials, and provide support to volunteer leaders.

NASP Online Communities: Promote and facilitate online community engagement among members.

Graduate Student and Early Career Members: Manage outreach, engagement, and volunteer initiatives.

Key Relationships:

Internal: Membership, Marketing, Webmaster, Production, Communications staff. Volunteer leaders including NASP state delegates, Graduate Student Committee, Early Career Committee members.
External: NASP members, prospective members, social media participants, convention attendees, and graduate educators.

Essential Skills and Experience:

Skills needed include promotional and web copy writing, understanding of and comfort with social media channels, outstanding interpersonal communications, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task multiple demands. Skill working with technology; content management systems (Ingeniux), online communities (Higher Logic), databases (iMIS or other AMS), e-mail messaging system (Informz) and MS Office programs (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).


The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or a related field and 2-4 years of experience. Knowledge of education and /or mental health issues is desirable as is experience in a nonprofit setting. Customer service orientation a priority, as is a proven ability to work with volunteers and staff. Demonstrated tact, diplomacy, ability to multi-task and excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. Ability to work well with staff, volunteers, and others. Flexible, creative, friendly, detail-oriented and able to work in a fast-paced team environment. Applicant must be proficient in MS Office. Working knowledge of iMIS database, broadcast e-mail software, website content management systems, and social media platforms preferred.
