Requires graduation from a NASP-approved program for Class AAA and AAAA licenses.

SEA Credential:
Mississippi Department of provides a 5-year educator license for the following:

Psychometrist (Class AA): Must complete a master's degree program in psychometry or hold a master's degree in another area and complete an approved program for psychometry. May not diagnose emotional disabilities.

School Psychologist (Class AAA): Complete a NASP-approved specialist (or equivalent) degree program in school psychology.

School Psychologist (Class AAAA): Meet requirements for Class AAA and obtain a doctoral degree in psychology.

No requisite graduate semester hours, internship, or practicum experiences are specifically outlined in the requirements. The Praxis I test is required for the Psychometry credential and a passing score on the Praxis I and Praxis II  are required for Class AAA and Class AAAA. 

As an alternative to the Praxis exam, one must achieve a twenty-one (21) ACT equivalent or achieve the nationally recommended passing score on the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators examination; AND No less than 2.75 GPA on content coursework in the requested area of certification or passing Praxis II scores at or above the national recommended score provided that the accepted cohort of candidates of the institution's teacher education program meets or exceeds a 3.0 GPA on pre-major coursework.

Continuing Education Requirements:

Renewal occurs every 5 years and must include (a) 3 semester hours in a content or job/skill related area or (b) 5 continuing education units (CEUs) in a content or job/skill area (10 contact hours = 1 CEU). This is the same for all levels of credential (AA, AAA, AAAA). School districts, organizations, or individuals wishing to prepare and offer a program for CEU credit must submit an application to an accredited CEU granting agency. Any Continuing Education Office at a college, university, or community/junior college is an accredited CEU granting agency. NASP-approved continuing professional development is accepted towards renewal.

Scope of Practice:
School psychologists with the SEA credential can provide services in public schools, private and charter schools, and college and university settings. The SEA credential also allows one to provide contract services in schools.  To practice outside of schools, one must apply through the Mississippi Board of Psychologists.
