Social Justice Lesson Plans

Two lesson plans were formulated by NASP's Social Justice Task Force and are intended to guide conversations and activities related to race and privilege. While each lesson plan is designed for the school context, they may be modified for use in other settings.

Lesson Plan - Middle and High School Students

Lesson Plan for Secondary Students
This lesson plan is designed for use with middle and high school students to explain the concept of privilege and how privilege impacts individual opportunities and society at large. The lesson plan includes lecture, interactive exercise, group reflection, and written activity components.

Lesson Plan - Adults

Lesson Plan for School Staff
The adult lesson plan should be utilized with school staff and contains interactive exercises and discussions to increase awareness related to privilege, assumptions, and implicit bias.

Facilitating Challenging Conversations

Supplement for Facilitation
These Suggestions for Challenging Conversations aim to provide additional guidance on the preparation, initiation, and facilitation of such activities, especially those related to race and privilege.
