Cyberbullying and Social Media Use: Overview and Implications for Practitioners

Cyberbullying has been on the rise in recent years and is a concern for youth and their families—it is often associated with negative academic, social, and emotional outcomes. These effects often find their way into the offices of principals and school mental health providers. This article reviews the issues involved in cyberbullying and its effects, and it points the way toward effective prevention and intervention strategies.

Just a Click Away The Impending Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Report Writing By Dan Florell The generative pretrained transformer AI known as ChatGPT was released to the public in 2022 and has left many knowledge-based professions shaken as to the future implications of the technology on their fields. It is going to be a major disruptor in a lot of professions, including school psychology. Research-Based Practice Meeting Student Success Gaps Through Systematic Collaboration By Sunny C. Olsen, Jennifer M. Swanson, Rolando A. Botello, & Kirsten W. Newell School psychologists are challenged to provide comprehensive, preventive services in the face of workforce shortages and high caseloads, all while protecting against their own burnout. A lack of systematic and collaborative support may be related to a pattern of success gaps, in which some students are failing to make progress and are underperforming. One tool that may help support the implementation of collaborative tiered support services is the recently redesigned Success Gaps Toolkit created by the IDEA Data Center to help educators make system-level changes by overcoming barriers to collaboration when supporting students. Social Justice Alternative Education Placement: Systems and Practices By Yahaira “Yari” Diaz, Cristina Ramirez, Caicina Jones, Kisha V. Jenkins, & Ava Blalark It is important to understand the contexts which lead to alternative education programming. The ways in which problem behavior is defined is detrimentally impacting ethnically and racially minoritized populations and students with disabilities. Additionally, the pipeline to alternative education with opportunities for increased supports and services may be generally available only for well-resourced and knowledgeable parents. The program’s ability to answer queries in a human-like manner provides unique opportunities and benefits for school psychologists and students alike.
