2024 Public Policy Institute Graduate Student Scholarship
*The application period has ended, and we are no longer accepting applications. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.
NASP is offering scholarships for two NASP members who are school psychology graduate students to attend the NASP Public Policy Institute (PPI) from July 24-26, 2024 in Washington, DC. This is an ideal opportunity for students to develop or enhance skills needed to become an effective advocate. Scholarship recipients are expected to complete an advocacy related service requirement. Details of the scholarship, application components, service requirement, and additional information is outlined below and in the application form. Applications for this scholarship must be received by April 22, 2024. Please send all materials to Maria Cornell (mcornell@naspweb.org). Questions may be directed to Kelly Vaillancourt, NASP Policy and Advocacy Director (kvaillancourt@naspweb.org).
What is included with the scholarship?
NASP will provide complimentary registration and cover the full cost of attendance to PPI for scholarship recipients which includes:
- Travel to/from Washington, DC
- 3 nights lodging at the Beacon Hotel, the official PPI hotel
- Per diem for meals not provided by NASP during PPI
Additional details and guidance regarding travel and accommodations will be provided to scholarship recipients. Please do not book travel or lodging until you receive additional information. Doing so could jeopardize reimbursement. Applicants will be notified via email no later than May 1, 2024.
What does the advocacy related service requirement entail?
Our intention is for you to help promote increased outreach and communication to your public officials and to increase awareness throughout NASP membership that advocacy is a professional obligation. Scholarship recipients will collaborate with NASP advocacy leaders to develop and complete at least two (2) service requirements that are both of interest to the student and support NASP advocacy goals. Such activities could include:
- Participation on a Policy Matters podcast
- Authoring a Policy Matters blog
- Contributing to the GPR/Grad Student Committee advocacy
- Delivering a presentation about the profession to high school students, undergraduate students, the local school board, or other strategic population
- Enlisting a group of fellow graduate students or school psychologists to join you for a visit to one of your Congressional Representatives or Senators in their local office.
- Volunteering for a two-hour shift at the GPR Convention booth at the 2025 NASP Convention
Application
Applications are due by April 22, 2024. Please send all materials to NASP Manager of Policy and Advocacy, Maria Cornell (mcornell@naspweb.org).
