NASP PREPaRE Core Workshops, August 2023

PREPaRE master trainers Amanda Nickerson, Franci Crepeau-Hobson, Benjamin Fernandez, and Lisa Coffey will present the third NASP-sponsored virtual PREPaRE Third Edition core workshops in August 2023. The workshops will be offered in their entirety online to make it possible for participants to attend from the safety of their home or workplace. Each workshop includes extensive workshop materials and tools and conveys documented, NASP-approved, Category A CPD.*

Note. Participants who complete a virtual PREPaRE workshop are not eligible for a Training of Trainers workshop (designed to develop skills needed to independently offer a PREPaRE workshop) until they have at least been able to observe an in-person workshop presentation.

Workshop Descriptions

Workshop 2: Mental Health Crisis Interventions: Responding to an Acute Traumatic Stressor in Schools
Wednesday and Thursday, August 9 and 10, 10:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. EST

Presenters:Amanda Nickerson, PhD, NCSP, and Franci Crepeau-Hobson, PhD, NCSP

Participants will develop the knowledge and skill to provide immediate mental health crisis interventions to the students, staff, and school community members who have been simultaneously exposed to an acute traumatic stressor. These skills may also help to build a bridge to the psychotherapeutic and trauma-informed mental health response sometimes required to address challenges associated with trauma exposure.

Workshop 1: Comprehensive School Safety Planning: Prevention Through Recovery
Monday, August 14, 10:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. EST

Presenters: Lisa Coffey, Ed.S., NCSP, and Benjamin Fernandez, MS. Ed

Participants will learn how to establish and sustain comprehensive school safety efforts that attend to both physical and psychological safety. The workshop addresses critical components needed to develop, exercise, and evaluate school safety and crisis response teams and plans and conduct building vulnerability assessments.

Requirements

Each workshop has a time commitment of 6.5 contact hours a day, but there will be multiple short breaks throughout with a longer break for lunch. A detailed schedule with built-in breaks will be provided to participants in advance for planning.

Full credit for the workshop(s) and access to the certificate of completion requires completing the pretest, all breakout activities, the posttest, evaluation, as well as attendance at the entire workshop. Attendance will be monitored.

Two to three weeks before the workshop, participants will need to enroll in the PREPaRE Online Catalog to complete pre-workshop requirements.

**NASP is also approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. NASP maintains responsibility for this program and its content.
