Convention Mentor Program

Sign up for the Convention Mentor Program to connect with an experienced school psychology professional for an hour on site. Student members can sign up as mentees only, whereas all other members can sign up as mentors and/or mentees.

Become a Mentor

Your personal experiences are invaluable to someone who’s just starting their career. What may feel like a simple, casual conversation to you can save your mentee from hours of stress and anxiety. Plus, you may be able to claim CPD for your participation.

To sign up, complete the brief registration form. Potential mentees will be able to review your information online. Once selected, you both will receive emails with your respective contact information, so you can plan when and where to meet during the convention.

Find a Mentor

School psychology is one of the most rewarding careers you can choose, but it can be a challenge at times! Whether you’re a graduate student or already working in the field, finding a professional mentor is a great chance to ask questions and seek advice about whatever challenges you’re facing.

Review the list of potential mentors and select the person who best matches your interests. Once you select a mentor, you both will receive emails with your respective contact information, so you can plan when and where to meet during the convention.

Prepare ahead of time by

  • setting a goal or identifying a focus for your meeting,
  • reviewing sample questions for graduate students and early career professionals,
  • jotting down additional questions specific to your situation, and
  • bringing a notebook or laptop to take notes for reference later.

Work Opportunities

Graduate students can work as Convention Assistants to receive a $75 registration fee refund in appreciation of their service. All attendees may volunteer as Workshop Monitors and may attend the workshop they monitor free of charge and earn documented CPD. Registration for these positions opens at noon EDT on Friday, November 1, 2019.
