Student Convention Kick-Off Breakfast (SE07)

This complimentary
breakfast available to all students provides an opportunity to meet peers and
NASP leaders, receive an overview of NASP programs and services targeted to
students, learn how to get the most out of the convention experience, and
benefit from tips on navigating New Orleans.
NCSP Help Session: Preparing for the Praxis Exam
in School Psychology
Thursday, February 7, 8:00-9:50 a.m.,
Get
helpful advice on preparing for the School Psychology Praxis Exam. The
presentation will describe study methods, materials, and strategies as well as
offer guidelines for trainers who help students prepare for the exam.
Student Town Hall Meeting (SE04)
Thursday, February 7, 9:00-10:00 a.m., Rhythms Ballroom-Sheraton
Join fellow students
and NASP staff and leadership to discuss issues and “hot topics” that relate to
graduate students. Learn about current student initiatives and valuable
services offered by NASP. Voice your ideas about how to enhance student
representation in the association and brainstorm additional services NASP could
provide that would benefit students.
Not Your Everyday School Psychology Jobs (SY016)
Thursday, February 7, 9:30-10:50 a.m.
This session will explore unique career opportunities in school psychology, presenting the experiences of four school psychologists working within public policy, nonprofit organizations, private industry, and school district administration. Attendees will learn how a strong basis in the discipline of school psychology prepares them well for service to others and to their profession in these related fields.

NASP Career Expo and Candidate Interview Service

The NASP
Career Expo and Candidate Interview Service offers training, get-acquainted
sessions, and employment interviews in a friendly, business-like setting.
Nothing beats meeting face-to-face with potential employers, including
representatives from school districts, private schools, agencies, regional
service areas (BOCES), universities, and professional recruiting firms.
Diversity Dialogue: Training and Practice Issues
for Graduate Students from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Backgrounds
Friday, February 8, 1:00-2:30 p.m.
This open discussion forum for graduate students and trainers is designed
to explore the recruitment, training, practice, and leadership prospects for
school psychology graduate students from culturally and linguistically diverse
backgrounds. Networking opportunities and a discussion of ways to become active
NASP student members and future leaders will be included in the meeting.
From Chapel Hill to Capitol Hill: Legislative
Advocacy Tools for Graduate Students and Early Career Professionals (SS24)
Friday, February 8, 4:00-5:50 p.m.
This
session will introduce NASP's government and professional advocacy program, and
provide information regarding critical policy issues affecting the profession
of school psychology at the federal, state and local level. Participants will
receive a comprehensive overview of the legislative process and the current
NASP legislative and public policy agenda. Participants in this popular
workshop will be empowered to take an active role in shaping the future of
their profession through legislative and public policy advocacy.

Graduate Student Outing (SE14)
Friday, February 8, 8:00-11:00 p.m., Sheraton Lobby
Students are welcome to participate in a fun social event on Friday, February 8th from 8:00-11:00 P.M. The evening will include dinner at Mulate’s, the original Cajun restaurant, followed by an activity on Frenchmen Street. Come out and get to know other students with an interest in school psychology. The activity venue is located within walking distance from the convention hotel, so be sure to join us!
