Explore exciting new opportunities to fund school mental health and safety initiatives

National Institute of Justice (NIJ) Resources

The National Institute of Justice (NIJ) has announced a new $50million grant entitled "Developing Knowledge About What Works to Make Schools Safer." This grant will allow local education agencies (LEAs) and state education agencies (SEAs) to implement and evaluate school safety initiatives in areas such as positive school culture, mental health services and crisis preparedness.

The deadline for applications is July 10, 2014.

Department of Education Project Prevent Grant

The Department of Education has released a $9.8 million grant entitled "Project Prevent." The grant will go to improve LEAs’ capacities to prevent student violence through identification, assessment, and intervention for students exposed to violence and trauma, as well as ensuring access to mental health services for students and the implementation of conflict resolution and other school safety programs.

The deadline for application is June 30, 2014.

Project AWARE Grant

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) of the Department of Health and Human Services has announced a new $9.4 million grant to implement and evaluate mental health first aid training in local school districts. This is a great opportunity for school psychologists to become trainers in an evidence-based program, provide training to staff, and spread awareness of the importance of mental health issues to students' well-being.

The deadline for application is June 16, 2014.
