The Evolution of Entry Level Training in School Psychology: Are We Now Approaching the Doctoral Level?

ABSTRACT: The issue of the appropriate entry level for practice as a school psychologist is discussed. Data are presented which suggest the proper forces are in play to cause school psychology to evolve to the doctoral level within the next 10years. It is concluded that school psychology will evolve to the doctoral level within that time period, and that greater emphasis should be placed on the content and quality of doctoral graduate training by the National Association of School Psychologists and the American Psychological Association. In this regard, critical issues facing both associations are discussed.
