The Primacy of Primary Prevention: The Metaphor of Screening

pp. 4—11

There is an old Hitchcock story about a wife who murders her husband by cracking him over the head with a frozen leg of lamb. She then casually defrosts the meat, cooks it and serves it to the police officers who have been searching high and low for a murder weapon. Within the several possibilities of “murder weapon”, these budding Hercule Poirots cannot envision that the weapon is in their immediate view and in the process of being destroyed by their own digestive systems.
