Accountability From a Humanist Point of View
If one examines the literature on accountability in education, he will find that the term is generally used in a highly abstract manner that suggests a hidden political purpose. When the advocates attempt to be specific about what they mean by accountability they invariably identify the quantitative aspects of education: rate of learning, finding the ratio between “inputs” and “outputs,” and the unit cost. Let’s analyze the consequences that would result for the student and teacher if the idea of accountability were actually to be applied in concrete situations.
