The theme of this Digest is “Behaviorism and Humanism : The Compatibility of Opposites.” The aim of this issue is to preview areas that will be the focus at the 1973 NASP Convention by exploring the major differences and similarities between the humanists and the behaviorists and by indicating some of the recent innovations and syntheses. The opening article by Barbara Bateman deals with the importance of humanistic goals and behaviorist technology. The second invited article by Frederick F. Lighthall centers on the social context in which the school psychologist must operate effectively to bring about meaningful change.
