Reviews of Adolescent Substance Abuse: A Guide to Prevention and Treatment, Positive Peer Culture, 2nd Edition, Child Neuropsychology: An Introduction to Theory, Research, and Clinical Practice

pp. 136—140

This edited monograph, which has also been published as a thematic issue of Child and Youth Services, provides a range of interesting, relevant and practical information for those involved in prevention and treatment of adolescent substance abuse. This area is especially important for school psychologists to address, as the editors point out that between 20 to40% of high school students use alcohol or drugs excessively, and that this use has negative effects on their current and future adjustment and functioning. The editors state the purpose of the monograph as presentation of new perspectives on adolescent substance abuse and presentation of topics which have previously received little attention in the literature. This compilation of articles does well in meeting these goals.
