Assessing Academic Behavior: A Behavioral Approach
Edward S. Shapiro, Francis E. Lentz
ABSTRACT: School psychologists are often required to assess academic abilities of pupils referred for evaluation. Dissatisfaction with traditional norm-referenced measures in performing these assessments is evident. The present article describes an alternative methodology for the assessment of academic skills derived from the principles of behavioral assessment and applied behavior analysis. The method is illustrated using an actual case study taken from school psychological practice.
