Performance of Disadvantaged Primary-Grade Children on the Revised ITPA

The 1968 revision of the Illinois Test of Psycholinguistic Abilities (ITPA) by Kirk, McCarthy, and Kirk (1968) was initiated in 1965 in order to improve the subtests of the original battery and to add tests which were not included in it. The revised edition, like the experimental edition, is concerned primarily with intra- rather than inter-individual differences. Such an assessment is diagnostic rather than classificatory since it pinpoints the deficient areas needing remediation for each child.
