Developments in Social Competence and Social Skills: Opportunities for School Psychology
James L. Carroll
ABSTRACT: The previous theme articles on social skills were examined for their implications for training and practice of school psychology. It was concluded that recent developments from studies of social competence and social skills provide opportunities for school psychologists to make progress in several areas. Specifically, long-term opportunities exist to form stronger links between research and practice and to increase collaboration across theoretical perspectives and professional boundaries. Immediately, there are opportunities to explore effects of specific preventive interventions and to participate in linking assessment and intervention.
