The Boder Test of Reading-Spelling Patterns(BTRSP) is a recent entry into the multitude of reading tests vying for the practitioner’s attention. Differential diagnosis of reading disorders and the development of appropriate teaching strategies are major problems for those who work with children having learning difficulties. The BTRSP proposes to solve these problems for the clinician and has thus begun to receive significant attention from practitioners and researchers alike. Prior to using anytests, but particularly new measures, a careful consideration of their psychometric and theoretical foundations is necessary. The present article and its companion, which follows immediately, were designed to provide a comprehensive analysis of this new test and its potential utility in research and in practice. A comprehensive description of the test is provided only in this article.
