Book Review

pp. 48—50

School psychologists have been “with it” people. When a new movement has come along, we’ve been “with it.” Down with the old, up with the new, get your magic now, don’t wait until later! Just as in political campaigns, we have our code words to which everybody “cheers” or “boos”. Terms like medical model, Binet, diagnosis, and cause of behavior are currently in disfavor among many school psychologists. The behaviorists and ecologists have made points, while the case for the individual who chooses and has motives and goals has slipped into the background. Just apply the right reinforcers and/or alter his environment, and he will shape up.
