Current Dimensions of Parent Training
ABSTRACT:This paper examines parent training as a mode of therapeutic intervention with children.The nature of parent concerns about their children is examined and related to the capacity of parent training to address these issues. The impact of recent changes in our society on the need for parent training is also examined. Five major approaches to parent training are reviewed; behavioral, Adlerian, interpersonal communications, parenthood education, and bibliotherapy. An illustration of each approach is presented with additional citations of the relevant literature.
