Career Development Services for the Handicapped: The California Plan

Many of the public and private habilitation/rehabilitation services available for individuals with handicaps are related to medical treatment and income maintenance. A large portion of the available assistance, however, relates to the vocational preparation of handicapped persons for vocations and avocations. This article describes the kinds of vocational services theoretically available to handicapped persons in California. Although services vary from state to state, most provide a similar set through public schools and community agencies. Vocational services provided by the State of California and local service agencies are as follows:
