In 1958 McClelland in Talent and Society underscored an educational opportunity and challenge : As students from impoverished backgrounds and from racial and ethnic minorities have “achieved” when provided with appropriate educational opportunities, they have demonstrated that “the right kinds of education” can indeed transform potential into “actual talented performance.”
