The opportunity to hear entertaining stories, or see them acted out, has always been available to children. From the earliest fireside tale to the most contemporary color cartoon with its high fidelity sound and phantasmagoria of special effects, fables of adventure, danger, heroism and excitement have amused youth in every society. The newest medium for providing such entertainment is television, which reaches 99% of all American homes.
