Responses to Commentaries on Advances in Empirically Based Assessment

McConaughy (this issue) described a program of research to advance assessment of children’s behavioral and emotional problems. The intent of that article was to present the conceptual framework for multi-axial empirically based assessment and to summarize research efforts to develop cross-informant scales for scoring parent, teacher, and self-reports. The major focus was on the 1991 scoring profiles for the Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL; Achenbach, 1991b), Teacher’s Report Form (TRF; Achenbach, 1991c), and Youth Self-Report (YSR; Achenbach, 199ld). Since details regarding the CBCL, TRF, and YSR are presented in their respective manuals and in an Integrative Guide (Achenbach, 1991a), McConaughy reviewed findings that were particularly relevant to the decision making required of school psychologists. This article responds to commentaries on that article.
