Workshop 1 – Crisis Prevention and Preparedness: Comprehensive School Safety Planning, Second Edition

8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

  • Presenters: PREPaRE curriculum authors and workgroup members
  • 6.5 CPD hours
  • Individuals registered for Workshop 1 are also able to register for Summer Conference Days 2 and 3.

Learn how to establish and sustain comprehensive school safety efforts. Specific attention will be given to developing, exercising, and evaluating safety/crisis teams and plans. The workshop also addresses issues associated with the media, special needs students, culture, and memorials. From this workshop participants will be better able to improve school climate, student behavior and academic functioning, student resilience, and school staff member crisis response capabilities. . Bring your whole school crisis team to this training.

Workshop 2 – Crisis Intervention and Recovery: The Roles of School-Based Mental Health Professionals, Second Edition

8:45 a.m.–4:45 p.m., and Wednesday, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

  • Presenters: PREPaRE curriculum authors and workgroup members
  • 13 CPD hours
  • Individuals registered for Workshop 2 are also able to register for Summer Conference Day 1.

Learn how to meet the needs of students and staff following a school-associated crisis event.  This workshop covers how to prevent and prepare for psychological trauma, help to reaffirm students’ perceptions that they are safe and secure, evaluate the level of traumatic impact, and respond to the variety of psychological needs of members of the school community. This workshop is an excellent course for all mental health professionals in your district who respond to crises.

Workshop 1, Training of Trainers (ToT) – Crisis Prevention and Preparedness: Comprehensive School Safety Planning, Second Edition

  • 5 CPD hours

This 5-hour session is designed to provide workshop participants with the information and practice needed to become a NASP PREPaRE WS1 “Crisis Prevention and Preparedness” workshop trainer.  

Thursday & Friday, July 24–25, 2014

Workshop 2, Training of Trainers (ToT) – Crisis Intervention and Recovery: The Roles of School-Based Mental Health Professionals, Second Edition

12:30 p.m.–4:00 p.m*, and Friday, 8:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.

  • Presenters: PREPaRE curriculum authors and workgroup members
  • 11 CPD hours
  • Included in both sessions will be a review of the logistics of workshop presentation and specific guidance on how to present the workshop.

This 11-hour session is designed to provide workshop participants with the information and practice needed to become a NASP PREPaRE WS2 “Crisis Intervention and Recovery” workshop trainer.

*There is intentional overlap of both ToT workshops on Thursday from 12:30-1:00pm, thus you may register for both ToTs as long as you have previously completed the core workshop(s).  

Participants are required to have completed the corresponding prerequisite PREPaRE workshops. You are eligible for the second edition ToT even if you took the original curriculum core workshops. 

Training of Trainer participants must have read the PREPaRE textbook, School Crisis Prevention and Intervention: The PREPaRE Model, prior to the training.
