SY023: Mindfulness Goes to School: Current Practice and Future Directions

This symposium overviews the conceptual foundations of mindfulness and the empirical support for using mindfulness-based interventions in the schools. Presentations will discuss the applicability of mindfulness training for improving the mental health of students and their caregivers, provide results from a systematic review of studies investigating mindfulness-based interventions, and describe current mindfulness training initiatives for students and teachers. Future directions for using mindfulness in school-based mental health practice will also be highlighted.
