PI023: SEL and PBIS: Similarities and Differences Between Two Discipline Approaches

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is the process of helping students acquire the social-emotional skills of self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationships, and decision-making. Positive Behavioral Intervention Supports (PBIS) is a decision-making framework for improving and sustaining effective school-wide behavior. Both approaches proactively address student behavior. This participation information exchange compares the two, providing practitioners an opportunity to discuss the merits of each and consider their potential impact on students.
