PO070: Ecology of School Readiness for Young Children Living in Poverty

Wednesday, February 19, 2014 1:00 PM–2:30 PM

Growing up in poverty increases the likelihood that children will enter kindergarten lacking adequate school readiness skills. This literature review explored risk and protective factors at each level of Bronfenbrenner’s ecological model that can contribute to school readiness for children living in poverty. Practitioners who serve children from poverty situations will learn about contexts and factors in poor children’s lives that may be most responsive to prevention and intervention efforts that target school readiness.
