PO050: A Brief Measure of Parent Perception of School Climate

Thursday, February 20, 2014 9:30 AM–11:00 AM

Multiple surveys of students’ and teachers’ perceptions of school climate exist but there are few psychometrically sound measures of parents’ perceptions. In a sample of 13,650 parents/guardians of students in grades K-12, confirmatory factor analyses supported the factor structure, reliability and measurement invariance of the Delaware School Climate Survey-Home. Scores correlated significantly with school suspensions/expulsions and academic achievement. Practical suggestions are given for the use of the survey in assessing and improving school climate.
