MS024: Autism Evaluations Student Interview Techniques to Individualize the Diagnosis

Friday, February 21, 2014 2:00 PM–3:50 PM

School psychologists are frequently faced with the challenge of distinguishing between autism spectrum and emotional or behavioral disorders. These distinctions are difficult to discern from checklist data, observations, or standardized tests. This session teaches participants to conduct diagnostic student interviews using sensory materials and student-driven topics to elicit a comprehensive behavioral profile, leading to individualized diagnostic results. Participants will view materials and sample interview techniques and be given a framework to organize their behavioral observations.
