PA019: Cultural Competence and RtI: The Contribution of Critical Race Theory

Tuesday, February 18, 2014 5:00 PM–5:50 PM

Critical Race Theory (CRT), a framework that has been used in other disciplines to address racial inequity, has promise for enriching the conceptualization of cultural competence. We will explain the CRT framework and present findings from a literature review to illustrate how CRT can expand definitions of culturally competent school psychological practice. Participants will learn new ways of examining and conceptualizing their cultural competence in systems-level efforts, policy, assessment and intervention.
