PO018: Cognitive-Achievement Relations and SES: A Mediation Analysis

Thursday, February 20, 2014 3:30 PM–5:00 PM

The development of academic skills are influenced by both cognitive abilities and SES. This study examined how cognitive abilities mediate the effects of SES on academic skills. Results showed that SES had small direct effects on academic skills, suggesting that the impact of SES is pervasive across academic and cognitive skills. Implications for research and practice with diverse economic populations are discussed.
