WS34: Cyberbullying, Digital Abuse, and Sexting, Oh My! Addressing Digital Risks

Schools face new challenges in addressing digital aggression (cyberbullying), dating abuse, and digital exploitation (including sexting). This presentation will provide insight based on current research and will present recommendations for a comprehensive, collaborative approach that incorporates prevention, instruction, and messaging that fosters positive social norms, transmits effective skills, and engages students as helpful allies; and intervention that focuses on restoration and resiliency. Special attention will be paid to legal issues, policies, and the effectiveness of school interventions. Strategies to use local survey data to support instruction, planning, and evaluation to ensure effectiveness will be outlined. The workshop will incorporate lecture and discussions and will be aimed at grades 4–12.
