PREPaRE School Crisis Prevention and Intervention Curriculum

Integrated safety and crisis training developed for and by professionals

The newly updated and revised PREPaRE curriculum provides training for school personnel in crisis preparation, prevention, intervention, response, and recovery procedures, with a special emphasis on the role of school-based mental health professionals.

Workshop 1 – Crisis Prevention and Preparedness:
Comprehensive School Safety Planning, Second Edition

Monday, July 23, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

Individuals registered for Workshop 1 also are able to register for the summer conference sessions.

Learn how to establish and sustain comprehensive school safety and crisis prevention and preparedness efforts. With updated research and strategies, this workshop makes a clearer connection between ongoing school safety and crisis preparedness. It also will emphasize the unique needs and functions of school teams and the steps involved in developing these teams. Bring you whole school crisis team to this training!

Workshop 2 – Crisis Intervention and Recovery:
The Roles of School-Based Mental Health Professionals, Second Edition

Tuesday, July 24, 8:45 a.m.–4:45 p.m., and Wednesday, July 25, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

13 CPD hours

Individuals registered for Workshop 2 also are able to register for the preconference workshops.

Learn how to meet the needs of students and staff following a school-associated crisis event. With updated research and crisis intervention strategies, this workshop covers how to prevent and prepare for psychological trauma, help to reaffirm students' perceptions that they are safe and secure, and respond to the psychological needs of members of the school community. This workshop is an excellent course for all mental health professionals in your district who respond to crises.

Workshop 1, Training of Trainers (ToT) – Crisis Prevention and Preparedness:
Comprehensive School Safety Planning, Second Edition

Thursday, July 26, 8:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.

5 CPD hours

This 5-hour session is designed to provide workshop participants with the information and practice needed to become a NASP PREPaRE Crisis Prevention and Preparedness workshop trainer.

Workshop 2, Training of Trainers (ToT) – Crisis Intervention and Recovery:
The Roles of School-Based Mental Health Professionals, Second Edition

Thursday, July 26, 12:30–4:00 p.m., and Friday, July 27, 8:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.
Presenters: PREPaRE curriculum authors and workgroup members
11 CPD hours

This 11-hour session is designed to provide workshop participants with the information and practice needed to become a NASP PREPaRE Crisis Intervention and Recovery workshop trainer.

Included in both sessions will be a review of the logistics of workshop presentation and specific guidance on how to present the workshop.

Participants are required to have completed the corresponding prerequisite PREPaRE workshops. You are eligible for the second edition ToT even if you took the original curriculum core workshops.

Training of Trainer participants must have read the PREPaRE textbook, School Crisis Prevention and Intervention: The PREPaRE Model, prior to the training. ToT Workshop 1 and ToT Workshop 2 overlap intentionally and participants are able to register for both workshops.
