Wanted: Qualified Candidates Seeking the Fast Track to
Employment
The NASP Career Expo and Candidate Interview Service offers
training, get-acquainted sessions, and employment
interviews in a friendly, businesslike setting—all at the NASP
2008 Annual Convention in New Orleans. Nothing beats
meeting face-to-face with potential employers, including
representatives from school districts, private schools,
agencies, regional service areas (BOCES), universities, and
professional recruiting firms.
The School Psychology Career Expo
The Career Expo is an opportunity for NASP members to meet
informally with employers. Attend the Career Expo 9:00–10:30
a.m. on Friday, February 8, and Saturday, February 9. The
Career Expo setting is an opportunity for introductions and
brief discussions. Employers will have interview sign-up
sheets and may choose to schedule future interview
appointments. Candidates are encouraged to bring copies of
their résumé to leave with prospective employers. They also
may complete the short registration process that is required
for interviews.
Training
Job seekers won’t want to miss the most popular special
feature of the 2008 NASP Career Expo and Candidate Interview
Service, “Getting and Keeping Your First Job as a School
Psychologist.”
Free Interviews! (NASP members only) The NASP Career Expo
and Candidate Interview Service offer you two days of
interviews in a proctored setting. Candidate interview hours
will be 11:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. on Friday, February 8, and
Saturday, February 9.
Interviews are conducted continuously and usually are
limited to 30–45 minutes. Appointments will be accepted on
a first-come, first-served basis. Interview sign-up sheets for
each hiring organization will not be posted until after the
employer has checked in. The number of interview requests
often exceeds the time slots offered by some employers, so
come early and check the sign-up sheets frequently for
new postings.
Candidates may attend interviews with any employers with
posted openings available. Many employers will be in high
demand for interviews, so please respect their time by being
on time!
Candidates are expected to keep in mind a few other rules:
candidates are prohibited from double-booking
appointments, making appointments for others, altering
another candidate’s appointment time, or otherwise
disrupting interview opportunities for others. The staff and
volunteers at the Interview Service will assist every candidate
in securing interview opportunities but cannot guarantee
appointments. Appointments of candidates who arrive more
than 10 minutes late are subject to cancellation. The
professional résumé remains a recognized means of
communication between candidates and prospective
employers. Plan to bring an ample supply of résumés with you
to the convention; photocopying services in the hotel are
expensive. The Career Expo and Candidate Interview Service
staff and volunteers cannot assist you in distributing résumés.

Employers Garner Extra Attention for Position Openings On Site!
Employers can post the good news about position openings
on Position Advertising Display spaces reserved exclusively
for your school district or agency. For employers purchasing
one or more interview tables, the new 4 ft. by 4 ft. display
space is available for $100 to post your position
announcements, posters, and brochures.
The display area will be located in a public area, to be seen
by hundreds of convention participants walking between
events. Our volunteers will monitor your display while you’re
inside at interviews and refresh your brochures as needed.
This new display opportunity and service is limited, so send
your reservation and payment today!
A small sign identifying the employer’s name will be provided
for the display space. Decorating and posting supplies
(construction paper, push pins, tape, markers, etc.) will not
be provided. Delivery of any shipped materials from the
receiving department of the hotel to the display area is the
responsibility of the employer. NASP recommends that
employers bring plenty of copies of consumable items, as
NASP cannot provide photocopying. Employers may post
materials only after employer registration has been confirmed
via check-in at the service, after 8:00 a.m. on Friday, February
8, 2008. Any unauthorized postings will be removed.
Additional floor, table, or bulletin board space is not
included in this offer. Access to electrical outlets is not
available. After-hours security cannot be assured, so plan to
remove posted materials Friday evening and store them at
your interview table overnight, to be reposted by 8:00 a.m.
on Saturday, February 9, 2008. Materials not removed by 5:30
p.m. on Saturday will be discarded.
Register On Site
Employers can register on site for both the convention and
the Career Expo and Candidate Interview Service. Employers who prefer to
register for the Career Expo and Candidate Interview Service
ONLY (and do not participate in other convention activities)
also can register on site.
Online Career Center
You’re in for a treat if you haven’t already visited the NASP
Career Center—the only online interactive career center
dedicated to school psychologists—at www.nasponline.org/careers. This service operates 24 hours a day
every day, year-round, to connect job seekers to schools,
clinics, hospitals, universities, institutions, agencies, and
other employers. Our experienced convention staff will be on
hand with free demonstrations and hands-on practice to get
you connected.
