2008 Difference Makers on Behalf of Children

Congratulations to the following educators from around the country who have been selected as a 2008 Outstanding "Difference Maker on Behalf of Children." Sponsored by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP), the "Difference Maker on Behalf of Children" Program seeks to help school psychologists promote children’s success in school and life. Specifically we seek to highlight the importance of meeting the needs of the whole child and improve collaboration by honoring individual members within the school community who, either through their own efforts or by encouraging the efforts of others, make an exceptional difference in the education, development and overall well-being of students and their families.

She truly has made the difference in so many lives. We are fortunate to have her as part of our District.

Comment: Angela is an extremely dedicated professional who displays a genuine warmth and kindness throughout the building. Her sense of humor and jovial attitude is contagious, and if it isn't, you'll be invited into her immaculate classroom for a cup of coffee, chocolate treat, or a pat on the back. If colleagues feel this way, you can only imagine how a student in her class must feel. Mrs. Commisso is often seen tutoring or mentoring children in the early morning, during lunch, or after school hours.

Comment: Dawn has worked with the NCHS Learning Support Team to evaluate the needs of student and develop programs to meet those needs. Working with her support staff she has developed a transition program for freshman students at risk that provides study skills training along with a teacher mentor. She also encouraged the proposal for a program of support for emotionally vulnerable students. With her sophomore class, she developed a program that fosters positive leadership skills that includes peer mentoring training for the students.

She is dedicated, self-directed and well-respected by the community. As a mother of three, Jodi is truly able to do it all and then some!
