Children of Lesbian and Gays Everywhere (COLAGE)

COLAGE is a national movement of children, youth, and adults with one or more lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and/or queer (LGBTQ) parents. They work toward social justice through youth empowerment, leadership development, education, and advocacy.

Family Equality Council

Family Equality Council works to ensure equality for LGBT families by building community, changing hearts and minds, and advancing social justice for all families.

Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD)

GLADD promotes fair and accurate representation of gay people in the media. This includes news and topics, outlines of projects and publications, and events calendar. GLAAD has developed a curriculum to help teach students about homophobia.

Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network (GLSEN)

GLSEN is a leading national education organization focused on ensuring safe schools for all students. This organization publishes the bi-annual National School Climate Survey of LGBT students in America's Schools.

Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA)

This site provides sexual orientation education and equality to help preserve the integrity of all human rights for all human beings.

Human Rights Campaign

The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) is a civil rights organization working to achieve gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender equality. By inspiring and engaging all Americans, HRC strives to end discrimination against GLBT citizens and realize a nation that achieves fundamental fairness and equality for all.

Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund

Lambda Legal is a national organization committed to achieving full recognition of the civil rights of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender people and those with HIV through impact litigation, education and public policy work.

The National Youth Advocacy Coalition is a social justice organization that advocates for and with young people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or questioning (LGBTQ) in an effort to end discrimination and to ensure their physical and emotional well-being.

Parents and Families of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG)

PFLAG promotes the health and well-being of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender persons, their families and friends through support, education, and advocacy efforts to end discrimination and to secure equal civil rights.

  • From Our House to the School House: A Recipe for Safe Schools This resource includes information on how to conduct as assessment on school safety for LGBT youth along with other valuable resources on developing professional development activities.

Project 10

Project 10, begun in 1984 in the LA Unified School District as the first on-campus gay-affirmative counseling program for gay youth, has become a model program for other school districts. The program conducts workshops for administrators and staff and has developed the Project 10 Handbook, a resource directory for educators. A curriculum for teaching about gay, lesbian, and bisexual youth is available in Spanish and English.

The Trevor Project

The Trevor Project is a non-profit endeavor established to promote acceptance of gay and questioning teenagers, and to aid in suicide prevention among that group. Educational materials are available through the website. Additionally, the Trevor Project maintains a hotline for youth. 1-866-488-7386.
